10 March 2026. Australia. Preparations underway for airport rail
Hundreds of steel pipes have arrived in Albion as crews begin relocating Melbourne’s largest jet fuel pipeline, clearing the way for major rail upgrades at one of the state’s busiest junctions. Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1 includes building two rail flyovers and a rail underpass, upgrading track between West Footscray and Albion, constructing new platforms and extending the concourse at Sunshine Station to create a superhub, and delivering new stations at Albion and Tottenham.

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy announced on February 19 that Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager is seeking for private sector participation on three rail freight infrastructure projects. Concessions are envisaged for a 25-year build, operate, transfer model and requests for proposals are expected to be called later this year. The government has also been seeking private sector interest for investment in a proposed high-speed rail line linking the Durban area, the conurbation around Johannesburg, and Tshwane.

10 March 2026. Uzbekistan. Toshkent rail freight terminal construction contract signed
The Silkway Central Asia joint venture of Kazakh company PTC Holding and Uzbek national railway UTY has awarded China Railway Construction Engineering Group a turnkey contract to design, build, and equip a rail-served multi-purpose logistics centre near Toshkent. The US$84m first phase is scheduled to open in 2027, with completion planned for 2030. Facilities at the 159-ha site will include container yards covering 172 000 m², more than 167 000 m² of warehousing.

10 March 2026. Italy. Roma orders more CAF trams as first new vehicle in 20 years arrives
Roma operator ATAC has signed a contract with CAF for the supply of 20 more trams, while the first car from an earlier order arrived in the capital on March 6. In October 2023 ATAC selected CAF for a €457m framework contract to supply up to 121 bidirectional trams and placed a €130m firm order for an initial 40 cars. A further 20 were ordered in October 2024, and both CAF and ATAC have told Railway Gazette International that the latest option for 20 more was called off in January 2026.

Transport for Wales (TfW) has recorded substantial improvements across customer satisfaction, punctuality and overall rail performance, according to new data from Transport Focus, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) and the UK Customer Satisfaction Index (UKCSI). The latest Transport Focus national survey places TfW fourth among UK train operators, scoring 91% in overall passenger satisfaction. Passengers also rated TfW’s trains at 91%, specifically recognising improvements in crowding, personal safety, and cleanliness.

9 March 2026. Italy. Hitachi Rail awarded €480m Torino Metro Line 2 contract
Torino metro project promoter Infra. Hitachi Rail has been awarded a contract to design and supply driverless trains and signalling systems for the future metro Line 2, which will run 10 km from Rebaudengo to Politecnico. There is a €388·5m base contract for the initial 7·7 km 10-station Rebaudengo – Porta Nuova section, which is scheduled to open in 2033, and a €93·1m option for the Porta Nuova – Politecnico second section.

9 March 2026. India. Alstom Celebrates Revenue Service on Delhi Metro’s Line 7 & 8 Extensions
Alstom has joined the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in its celebration of the commencement of revenue service on the Delhi Metro’s new Line 7 and Line 8 extensions. The extensions, which span from Majlis Park to Maujpur (Line 7 – Pink line) and Majlis Park to Deepali Chowk, are also set to be extended further to RK Ashram and Janakpuri (Line 8 – Magenta line) sometime in the future.

Amtrak will begin accepting applications on 23 March for the first round of community grants linked to the B&P Tunnel Replacement Program, which will modernise a critical rail corridor in Baltimore. The grants form part of a 50 million USD community investment commitment aimed at reducing the impact of large-scale construction as work begins on the new Frederick Douglass Tunnel alignment.

6 March 2026. Philippines. MRT-7 pins location for the bus terminal link
The private builder of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) has identified the final location for its northernmost station, which will be linked to a bus terminal for trips to Central Luzon. In an update, San Jose del Monte Mayor Florida Perez-Robes said San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has finally shared with local executives the revised alignment for the MRT-7. Based on the new alignment, the 14th and final station.

- Oversees progress of on-site work and resolves any arising issues.
- Ensures design quality.

- Prepare the necessary programme and monitor progress of work to ensure all necessary timelines are met
Job Requirements:
Exposure to civil/infrastructure works is required and the following skills:
- Graduated with a Degree or a Master's in Architecture
- Minimum 10 years of relevant architectural experience running BIM projects.
- Possess at least 5 years of working experience in the design of transit rail projects. MRT / LRT depot experience is necessary.
- Good knowledge of architectural details, working drawings and construction practices.
- Desired software proficiencies: Applicants are expected to possess comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft Project as well as with design and graphics software, specifically Revit, SketchUp, ACAD and Photoshop.
- Ability to use sketch and produce good design concepts.
- Conversant with local codes and regulations.
- Added bonus would be to also have experience in aviation-related projects such as airports, hangers etc.
