9 February 2026. Saudi Arabia. SAR signs $1.5bn Haramain high-speed train deal

Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR) has signed an agreement with Spanish firm Talgo to purchase 20 new high-speed trains for its Haramain high-speed railway. In a statement, Talgo said that the deal adds €1.33bn ($1.57bn) to its order backlog. The new fleet will increase the network’s passenger capacity to more than 30 million travellers annually. The agreement was announced on 8 February by the kingdom’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services

9 February 2026. United Arab Emirates. Contract award imminent for Etihad high-speed rail PMC

The UAE’s Etihad Rail is preparing to finalize a contract covering project management consultancy (PMC) services for the civil works and station packages of the high-speed railway (HSR) line that will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The contract for the construction of the Abu Dhabi side of the railway was awarded to a consortium comprising Abu Dhabi’s National Projects Construction (NPC), Trojan Tunnelling, Turkiye’s Kalyon, and Beijing-headquartered China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

9 February 2026. Canada. Hyundai Rotem to Supply High-Floor Light Rail Vehicles in Edmonton

The City of Edmonton has signed a purchase contract with Hyundai Rotem Company for a new fleet of high-floor light rail vehicles to support planned network expansions and replace ageing rolling stock. The agreement covers the design and manufacture of 32 high-floor vehicles for use on the Metro Line Northwest Phase 1 and Capital Line South Phase 1 extensions, as well as the phased replacement of Siemens U2 vehicles that have operated in Edmonton for more than four decades.

9 February 2026. Germany. Deutsche Bahn Begins Major Rail Corridor Renovations

DB InfraGO has begun two major rail corridor renovation projects in North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria, commencing extensive infrastructure works on the Hagen–Wuppertal–Cologne and Nuremberg–Regensburg lines. Both schemes involve full route closures, diversions for long-distance and freight trains, and large-scale replacement bus services for regional passengers. The Hagen–Wuppertal–Cologne project was officially launched in Wuppertal-Elberfeld by DB InfraGO chief executive Dr Philipp Nagl, Federal Transport Ministry state secretary Christian Hirte.

9 February 2026. Turkey. Stadler to Supply 35 EURO4001 Locomotives for Turkish Operation

Stadler has announced receipt of a contract from the Turkish railways company TCDD Taşımacılık A.Ş. to design, manufacture, and deliver 35 EURO4001 diesel-electric mainline locomotives. The contract, which also includes the provision of capital spares, consumables, special tools, and test equipment, will also see Stadler commit to three years of both maintenance and repair services. Specifically engineered for heavy freight services on non-electrified lines and steep gradients, the EURO4001 locomotive.

9 February 2026. Philippines. BGC, SCTEx projects moving forward – BCDA

Construction of three subway stations in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), part of its redevelopment plan in conjunction with the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), will proceed this year, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and CEO Joshua Bingcang told reporters over the weekend. The three subway stations, located at Market! Market! The new Senate building and Uptown will help ease traffic in BGC. Construction will start in the first quarter.

9 February 2026. Saudi Arabia. Talgo to Supply & Maintain 20 High-Speed Trains for Saudi Arabia Railways

Talgo has been awarded a new contract to both manufacture and maintain a set of 20 new high-speed trains for Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR). The contract, which will add 1.3 billion EUR to Talgo’s order book, will see the new units enter operation on the rail line connecting Mecca, Medina and Jeddah. The 20 trains will join 35 previously supplied by Talgo in 2018, which too operate in the desert and are completely maintained by the company.

The East-West Corridor of Lucknow Metro spans 11.098 km from Lucknow Railway Station to Vasant Kunj, covering 12 stations. 6 February 2026. Denmark. Siemens and Stadler to Deliver World’s Largest Automated Railway Fleet for Copenhagen S Bane

The Danish State Railways (DSB) has signed a landmark framework contract with a Siemens Mobility and Stadler consortium for 226 fully automated, 4car trainsets, with an option for a further 100. Valued at around 3 billion, the project will create the worlds largest open railway system operating at Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) a major leap forward in automated metrostyle rail operations across Europe—a major investment to transform Copenhagen’s Rail Capacity.

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a UAE National for the role of Manager, Civils working in the Rail System Development team.

The Job Purpose is to lead and manage rail system development, ensuring the planning, design, and delivery of rail projects in compliance with client's standards, international best practices, and sustainability requirements, while supporting the successful implementation of safe, integrated, and efficient rail systems across Dubai.

Key results accountabilities

- Ensure rail system development compliance with client standards, specifications, and international best practices

- Lead performance management, including setting objectives, KPIs, and business continuity plans

- Contribute to pre-contract planning, system development, and strategic transportation vision

- Embed sustainability principles across all rail system projects in line with government directives

- Plan, review, and validate rail systems design for constructability, maintainability, integration, interoperability, efficiency, and sustainability

- Supervise rail systems design, installation, testing, and commissioning, ensuring contractual compliance

- Provide technical support to Contracts & Commercial teams, including change control, variations, claims, and payments

- Review and support EPC contractor selection from a rail systems technical perspective

- Manage annual budget planning, monitoring, and optimization for the Rail System Development Section

- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of rail projects in accordance with client requirements

- Prepare and review technical and executive reports for senior management

- Coordinate with internal Rail Agency sections to support railway opening and operational readiness

- Liaise with consultants and contractors on systems assurance, safety, risk mitigation, and operational delivery

- Ensure compliance with quality assurance, HSE, and business excellence standards

- Lead and apply value engineering across rail projects

Job Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)

- Minimum 14 years' experience in rail systems, infrastructure, or large-scale transportation projects.
