8 December 2025. Sweden. Alstom Celebrates Swedish Operations in First Impact Report
Alstom has released its very first impact report on its Swedish operations, highlighting a strong contribution to both the country’s economy and its sustainable transportation situation. Supporting over 3,000 jobs in total, Alstom has become one of the country’s leading actors in the rail technology sector, with more than 2,000 employees, contributing more than 1.4 billion SEK to the country’s overall GDP. The company’s advanced testing and development facilities in Västerås are aiming to drive innovation in energy-efficient rail transport.

Mayor Steve Rotheram has announced an unprecedented £1.6 billion investment in Liverpool City Region’s public transport network, promising new railway stations, rapid transit links, and smart ticketing across the entire system. Described as the city region’s largest-ever transport upgrade, the plans aim to better connect communities—including major new housing developments while boosting productivity, driving economic growth, and unlocking regeneration opportunities. The funding comes from the Transport for City Region (TCR) settlement, secured in June and confirmed by the Chancellor.

The 12·6 km, three-station Federal Way Link extension of the Sound Transit light rail 1 Line that serves the Seattle-Tacoma area opened on December 6. The extension took the 1 Line southwards from Angle Lake, which is located south of SeaTac airport, to Federal Way Downtown. Extensive Park and ride facilities are a feature of the expanded 1 Line. Car parks were added along the line to provide a total of nearly 2,000 new parking spaces: 500 at Kent Des Moines.

8 December 2025. South Korea. Supreme Railways unveils EMU-320 high-speed train
Supreme Railways has unveiled the first of 14 eight-car EMU-320 high-speed trainsets being supplied by Hyundai Rotem. The ceremony was held at the manufacturer’s Changwon facility last month, where the trainset is to undergo testing and commissioning runs starting next year. Deliveries to the operator are scheduled to start at the end of 2026. Hyundai Rotem is building 17 EMU-320 trainsets for national operator Korail and 14 similar sets to SR under contracts signed in March and April 2023.

5 December 2025. India. BEML Secures ₹157 Crore Contract for Switch Rail Grinding Machines
BEML Limited, a public sector enterprise under the Government of India, has received a contract worth approximately 157 crore INR to manufacture 15 sets of Switch Rail Grinding Machines, comprising 30 cars. The order was placed by Loram Rail Maintenance India Private Limited, a company specialising in rail maintenance technologies. Under the agreement, BEML will produce and supply Switch Rail Grinding Machines to Indian Railways. The machines are designed to perform precision grinding of railway switches and crossings.

The new contract will be for a period of four years and includes both preventive and corrective maintenance of the signalling infrastructure. Spanish state-owned entity Adif has allocated €13.3 million ($15.4 million) for a contract to maintain signalling equipment and systems on the La Robla-Pola de Lena high-speed rail line. This line serves as a connection to Asturias through the Pajares Bypass in Spain. The newly announced contract will last for four years and commence after the existing contract expires. It will cover both preventive and corrective servicing of the signalling infrastructure.

4 December 2025. Australia. Alstom installs Urbalis Flo CBTC on Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project
The Urbalis Flo CBTC system is anticipated to allow for more frequent train operations. Alstom has delivered its Urbalis Flo communications-based train control (CBTC) system on an existing rail line as part of Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel Project, which has officially commenced operations. This marks the first brownfield CBTC installation on an operating rail line in Australia. Urbalis Flo is expected to enable more frequent train services and support an increase in weekly passenger trips by reducing the time between trains.

2 December 2025. Norway. Siemens Mobility deploys CBTC solution to increase Oslo Metro capacity
The implementation is part of a broader €270m ($313m) project, which was originally awarded to Siemens Mobility in 2021. Siemens Mobility and public transport operator Sporveien have placed a new Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system into passenger service on a 3km segment of the Oslo Metro in Norway. The deployment is part of a broader €270m ($313m) project awarded to Siemens Mobility in 2021. Under the contract, the company is responsible for replacing the network’s legacy signalling across its full 86-km extent and integrating the new Fornebubanen line.

This involves reviewing the detailed engineering design and the employer's requirements for the Telecommunication System to ensure they apply to the project. Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Structure Expert to be responsible for managing the company's execution of structure works and services and providing technical expertise and advise to the PMC/the Engineer and contractors during the delivery of their infrastructure, in order to ensure a smooth workflow is maintained in line with the scope of work and established standards and protocols.
Accountability Areas:
- Identifies and Defines problems, establish the work scope, prepare the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status.
- Prepare detailed calculations, drawings, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, and detailed analyses.
- Deliver on the development and approval of the criteria and specifications related to the structure and building design, ensuring enclosed documentation meets the functional and performance criteria agreed upon with the corresponding business units.
- Ensure the development of an integrated design for the civil/structural architectural and systems that would produce a fully functional and reliable network according to the customers' needs.
- Address and resolve design and development issues encountered with the structural design and closely monitor the PMC/the Engineer's performance and delivery, in order to reduce the likelihood of risks and ensure timely handover of project deliverables.
- Responsible for reviewing the PMC/the Engineer's enclosed documentation pertinent to the civil discipline and issuing approvals where deemed necessary, in order to ensure the company's projects run smoothly and project stages are completed within set budget and timelines.
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Structure Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 12 years of Relevant Experience.
Preferred:
- Project management certificate
- Trained in Railway Engineering, with eventually Certificate
