15 September 2025. United Kingdom. Cross-channel rail expansion takes step Forward
On Thursday 11 September, challenger train companies Evolyn, Gemini, Trenitalia, and Virgin joined a meeting convened by Calvin Bailey MBE MP in Parliament, alongside existing train operator Eurostar and infrastructure operators London St Pancras Highspeed and Eurotunnel. All five train operators are looking to invest in the UK to enable them to provide expanded cross-Channel rail services.

15 September 2025. Canada. Canada Flags Alto High-Speed Rail as Priority Project
The Canadian government has named the proposed Alto high-speed rail line as one of the major infrastructure projects it intends to advance more quickly. This signals a shift towards accelerating the development of the country’s first high-speed rail network. The project, which will be delivered by Crown corporation Alto, has been added to the Major Projects Office list, a mechanism designed to support complex national schemes and bring forward construction timetables.

15 September 2025. South Korea. Wirye Line test runs aim to return trams to Seoul after 58 years
The municipality of Seoul has announced that test runs will start this month for the 5·4 km Wirye Line tramway, with opening scheduled for the second half of next year. Test runs are to be carried out at Korea Railroad Research Institute’s Osong test track, aiming to bring trams back to Seoul after the last section’s closure in 1968. The catenary-free tramway is to serve 12 stops, giving access to the centre of Wirye which lies in the southeast of the conurbation.

15 September 2025. India. Alstom to Provide Maintenance for DMRC Trains, Machines & Plants in India
Alstom has been awarded a new 10-year contract for the comprehensive annual maintenance of Bombardier-made metro trains, machines and plants by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The contract also includes the provision of housekeeping services for both trains and the Corporation’s Badli Depot, as well as maintenance for the onboard signalling equipment installed in all 103 trains on Lines 1 & 2.

12 September 2025. India. NHSRCL signs agreement for Mumbai–Ahmedabad HSR track works in India
The National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) in India has entered into an agreement with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the design, supply, and construction of track and related works for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail (HSR) project in Maharashtra. This agreement encompasses approximately 157km route alignment, which includes track works for four stations and a rolling stock depot located in Thane, extending to the Maharashtra-Gujarat border.

HS2 has reached a major milestone with the completion of civil engineering works on the Colne Valley Viaduct, now officially the UK’s longest rail bridge at 2.1 miles (3.4km).
The viaduct, which will carry high-speed trains at 200mph, stretches across roads, lakes, the River Colne, and the Grand Union Canal northwest of London. It surpasses the Tay Bridge—which held the record since 1887—as Britain’s longest rail bridge.

Expressions of interest in the next contract to operate passenger rail services around Melbourne are to be invited from mid-September, with the Victoria state government calling for ‘the most experienced transport operators from around the world’ to bid. The state said the contract, designated MR5, is ‘an opportunity to raise the bar and deliver better outcomes for customers’. It would provide ‘a world class customer experience that connects residents and visitors alike, linking seamlessly with the world’s largest tram network, regional rail services, bus routes and airport connections’.

Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Rail Systems Manager to manage the Rail System Development section and support in the planning, development, and execution of department projects by realization of the department functions and objectives and ensure best international standards and practices used for the betterment of rail Projects.
This role is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Key Results Accountabilities
- Ensure Rail system development is in compliance with company standards and specifications
- Manage the performance management system of the section and develops objectives and KPIs to facilitate consistent growth and business continuity
- Actively contribute to the pre-contract stage planning and development of projects and strategic transportation vision
- Incorporate principles of sustainability to all projects involved where possible and as per the latest directives from the Authorized Governmental Body within the emirates of Dubai
- Plan, implement, and validate rail systems design for constructability, maintainability, cross-network interchangeability, compatibility, system integration, efficiency, and sustainability
- Supervise Rail system design, installation and testing and ensures compliance with the contract requirements, international standards, and best practices
- Provide Rail system technical support to the Contracts & Commercial team including Change Control Committee for timely and informed decision on claims, Variation and payments
- Provide technical reviews on EPC Contractor selection to ensure contract specifications and the client's requirements are relayed to the Engineer
- Manages the Rail System Development Section annual budget planning, monitors the implementation, evaluates, and recommends specific adjustments during the implementation to meet the project goals and objects
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of rail projects in accordance with company requirements and standards
- Review and prepare technical and executive reports as necessary to carry out the functions of the department and for top management, when necessary or request
- Collaborate with other Rail Agency sections to achieve successful Railway opening and ensures equipment is as required, tests and commissions during planning and construction phase
Job Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 15 years of working experience in the field
