23 June 2025. United Kingdom. Northern opens doors to Heaton TrainCare Centre to celebrate 150 years
Northern is inviting members of the public to step behind the scenes at one of Britain’s longest-serving train care facilities with a special charity open day, taking place at Heaton TrainCare Centre in Newcastle on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 September 2025. In September, Heaton Traincare Centre will mark a significant milestone: 150 years since it first opened its doors. The rare opportunity to go behind the scenes will give visitors a glimpse into the inner workings of a depot that keeps hundreds of Northern, TransPennine Express, and LNER trains in top condition.

23 June 2025. Canada. Québec tramway early operator appointed
Public infrastructure developer CDPQ Infra has appointed RATP Dev Canada as the early operator for the TramCité project in Québec City. RATP Dev Canada will provide CDPQ Infra and the future designated operator, Réseau de Transport de la Capitale, with technical assistance to support planning for the operation and maintenance of the future line. This will include co-development of the final designs and managing interfaces. The first line of the tramway would run 19 km from Le Gendre to Charlesbourg, via Sainte-Foy, Université Laval.

23 June 2025. Canada. Construction Underway at East Harbour Transit Hub in Toronto
Major construction has commenced on the East Harbour Transit Hub in Toronto’s east end, which will provide a new interchange connecting GO Transit services with the future Ontario Line. The East Harbour Transit Hub will link the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines with the Ontario Line. This integration is expected to help ease congestion at Union Station, particularly during peak periods. Projections suggest that the new interchange could reduce passenger volumes at Union by up to 14,000 people during the morning rush hour.

23 June 2025. Turkey. Alstom to Supply ROCS on Halkali-Kapikule High-Speed Line
Alstom has signed a contract to supply a Rigid Overhead Catenary System (ROCS) on RESA A.Ş’ Halkali-Kapikule high-speed line. The first of its kind to be installed within Türkiye; the ROCS is set to be implemented on the line’s Halkali-Ispartakule section, creating a link between both Türkiye and Europe. The line, which will stretch over a total of 229 kilometres, will include the ROCS across a double-track tunnel each measuring roughly 7 kilometres long and 8.3 metres wide, with the network set to run underneath local neighbourhoods and Küçükçekmece Lake.

CAF has been awarded two new train maintenance contracts in Brazil and New Zealand, with a combined value exceeding 100 million EUR. These agreements will see the company providing long-term servicing for fleets it originally supplied. São Paulo Metro Contract in Brazil, CAF has signed a 14-year comprehensive maintenance contract with Motiva Group, the operator of Line 5 of the São Paulo Metro. The agreement covers the ongoing upkeep of 26 six-car trains that CAF delivered under a 2011 supply contract. Maintenance activities will be carried out at the Capão Redondo and Guido Caloi depots.

23 June 2025.France. First trainset for Grand Paris Express Line 18 delivered
Île-de-France Mobilités expects the delivery of all 15 trainsets by the end of 2026. société des Grands Projets, Île-de-France Mobilités and Alstom revealed the first trainset for the Grand Paris Express Line 18 delivered at the Palaiseau operating centre. This development marks a step towards the line’s entry into the testing phase and scheduled opening in the last quarter of 2026, connecting Massy – Palaiseau and Christ de Saclay stations. The contract was awarded to Alstom in September 2021 by the Société des grands projets and Île-de-France.

20 June 2025. United Kingdom. The Hero Saving a £14M Railway Project from Seagull Sabotage!
Meet Maverick – a feathered enforcer whose job is to ensure nesting birds don’t cause costly delays to Network Rail’s £14 million upgrade of Scarborough station. The 15-month-old Harris hawk puts in two shifts a week at the coastal rail terminus, keeping gulls and crows from settling on the soon-to-be-replaced roof. Old slats have been removed already, and nesting birds could mean work having to stop during the critical summer months of the extensive 12-month project. Maverick and fellow winged seaside sentry Lily patrol.

20 June 2025. Taiwan. Dark Green Line approved as Tainan monorail network takes shape
Tainan municipality has approved feasibility studies for the city’s planned Dark Green Line monorail as part of a widfer network development plan. This 21·3 km elevated line would serve 14 stations, linking the Shanhua main line station in the northeast to the Zhongshan Road area in the southeast. An eight-line urban monorail network is ultimately planned in the city, which will provide links to the neighbouring city of Kaohsiung. An interchange is envisaged between the Tainan network and the planned northern extension of Kaohsiung’s Red Line metro.

18 June 2025. India. Siemens consortium wins telecoms contract for Indian HSR project
The project, slated for completion over 54 months, will see Siemens providing 15 years of maintenance services. A consortium led by Siemens, Siemens Mobility, and Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon has secured a Rs41bn ($475.2m) contract from National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) for India’s inaugural High-Speed Rail project. The contract includes a Rs12.3bn share for Siemens, covering the design, installation, and extended maintenance of signalling and telecommunications systems. The project, slated for completion over 54 months, will see Siemens providing 15 years of maintenance services to ensure the reliability of the rail system throughout its lifecycle.

The T&C Manager will lead and oversee all testing and commissioning activities for the Automated People Mover (APM) system/Metros. This includes managing the integration, validation, and performance testing of subsystems such as rolling stock, signaling, communications, power supply, and platform systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the overall Testing & Commissioning schedule.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams.
- Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and System Integration Tests (SIT).
- Oversee commissioning of subsystems: rolling stock, track, signaling, SCADA, and communications.
- Manage trial runs and performance validation of the APM system.
- Prepare and maintain test plans, procedures, and reports.
- Track and resolve issues identified during testing.
- Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Job Requirements:

- Ensure compliance with Al Sa`fat Green Building Regulations for all design and construction phases.
- Manage the full LEED certification process via LEED Online (from pre-design to final submission).
- Coordinate with Dubai Municipality - Green Building Department for Al Sa`fat approvals and inspections.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate sustainability strategies into the project.
- Review project drawings, specs, and submittals to ensure alignment with LEED and Al Sa`fat requirements.
- Prepare, collect, and submit all required documentation and calculations for both certification systems.
- Track and monitor sustainability credits, site performance, and construction practices.
