The Vietnam Railway Summit will take place from 25th to 26th September 2024 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

 Vietnam’s government has unveiled a comprehensive action plan to steer the development of the country’s railway transport system, setting ambitious goals and clear directives to modernize and expand the network. The government will focus on developing the railway infrastructure and investment in new important routes. The project's total investment fetches $61.02 billion, of which state capital accounts for 80 per cent, and equity capital about 20 per cent. The government would also develop a new highspeed railway on the North-South and East West corridor. The Government is willing to commit over US$70 billion investment to a high-speed railway system that will span the entire country.

 

The Vietnam Railway Summit 2024 will bring together around 200 C-Level executives from Government Authorities, practitioners, and all railway stakeholders from Vietnam and beyond to discuss the urban and high-speed railway development in Vietnam and across the ASEAN region, the potential of railway investment, railway asset maintenance and management and O&M case studies best practices.

31 July 2024. United Kingdom. Elizabeth Line shortlisted for architecture award

The Elizabeth Line has been shortlisted for the UK’s most prestigious architecture award, the Stirling Prize. The jury for the competition, run annually by RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects), has selected the new rail network along with five other feats of architecture, with a winner to be announced on 16th October. A “transport tour de force”, the jury was particularly impressed by the passenger experience delivered by the Elizabeth Line.

30 July 2024. Italy. Hitachi Rail to Supply Battery-Powered Trams in Florence

In Florence, Hitachi Rail has been contracted to supply 46 advanced battery-powered trams and the necessary digital signalling to operate them. The new fleet of battery trams will eliminate the need for the traditional overhead electrified infrastructure, which is costly to install and visually intrusive. By using battery technology, Hitachi Rail’s vehicles aim to preserve the aesthetic integrity of Florence’s historic city centre while providing a high-capacity, efficient public transportation option.

30 July 2024. Turkey. Ankara – Istanbul high speed line to be protected against landslides

Infrastructure manager TCDD has awarded construction company IC İçtaş a TL707·6m contract to rebuild and reinforce a section of the Ankara – Istanbul high speed line in the Bilecik area which is prone to flooding and landslides. In 2019 a section of trackbed was washed away by severe rainfall. The work will involve the insertion of bored piles to support sections of trackbed, and the construction of a cut-and-cover tunnel to replace existing above-ground track.

29 July 2024. Hong Kong. Smart & Green Mass Transit System planning contract awarded

The Hong Kong government’s Highways Department and a consortium of Arup & Partners and Asia Infrastructure Solutions signed HK$262·5m contract on July 22 covering detailed planning and design for what is branded a Smart & Green Mass Transit System to serve east Kowloon. The 3½-year detailed project development phase will include input from Knight Frank Petty, KTA Planning and China Design Group. The government aims to call tenders for construction in 2026 and award contracts in 2027, enabling the line to open by 2033.

29 July 2024. United Kingdom. Alstom extends contract to maintain TransPennine Express Class 397 fleet

Alstom has signed a £10.4 million contract extension with passenger operator TransPennine Express to maintain their Class 397 fleet. The contract will see Alstom continue to offer train maintenance, stabling, servicing and cleaning services for TransPennine Express’ 12 Class 397 – known as Nova 2 – five-car electric multiple units (EMUs). The work for TransPennine Express will continue to be carried out of Alstom’s Traincare Centres in Manchester and Glasgow; two of five similar facilities the company operates along the West Coast Main Line.

26 July 2024. India. Wabtec opens new maintenance shed in Andhra Pradesh, India

US rail manufacturer Wabtec is extending its maintenance services in India with the launch of its Gooty Maintenance Shed in Andhra Pradesh, in partnership with Indian Railways. The shed expands Wabtec’s capabilities in Southern India by leveraging Indian Railways’ staff and infrastructure to carry out maintenance for up to 250 Wabtec locomotives in Gooty over the next three years.

26 July 2024. United States. MBTA Approves Plan for Battery-Electric Commuter Trains

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has approved Keolis’s plan to operate battery-electric trains on the Fairmount Commuter Rail Line. This 54 million USD agreement will advance the acquisition of battery-electric trains to offer more frequent services and lower emissions. The plan was submitted by Keolis Commuter Services, the operating partner for the MBTA Commuter Rail, in December 2023.

This role is based in Kuala Lumpur and will report to the Director Project Management.

The person will be responsible for

- Developing a detailed production schedule on all tasks and to meet the completion date.

- Evaluating the Project Data and to create suitable production schedules

- Associate with Business Development Division and meet the customers' requirements.

- Estimate the number of materials, equipment and workforce required for production.

- Coordinating production operations and workflow in accordance with materials, labor, and equipment availability for a single or multiple projects.

- Scheduling shifts according to production needs from time to time.

- Monitoring the project's progress and to ensure that it is according to the schedule / plan.

- Compiling status, performance reports and submit them to the management as per plan.

- Recommending solutions to reduce production costs (improve process & quality).

- Planning and Prioritizing operations that ensure max. performance with min delay.

- Addressing and resolving production issues promptly to reduce delays in production.

- Carrying out changes in production schedules & ensure that production deadlines are met.

- Informing the relevant departments. about the changes and current challenges in production.

- Monitoring all tasks & production and to ensure that it is completed on time & within budget.

- Collaborating with quality control, warehouse and other staff as a team.

- Interacting with Customers and Suppliers and relevant depts to provide solutions.

- Ensuring that all staff, materials and machineries are always available whenever required.

- Collecting and evaluating data from the production floor and team's performance.

Job Requirements

- Minimum 10 years experience in planning rolling stock projects

- Preferably has work permit for Malaysia but client will consider overseas candidates

- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Management or related field is preferred.

- Certified in Production & Inventory Mgmt. (CPIM) / other relevant certification is advantage

- Proven track record with working experience as a Production Planner.

- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, ERP systems and Primavera P6

- Sound knowledge in Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and its related software.

- Strong analytical person with problem-solving skills.

- Excellent and effective in communication, people and time management skills.

- Impressive knowledge of production planning and quality control principles.

- Excellent Stress management skills, Leadership and Organizational Skills.

Systems Engineer, Sydney, Australia

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to provide technical engineering expertise in the development, implementation and support of Control Centre communications and information systems. This role is based in Sydney, Australia and not open to overseas candidates.

Main Tasks

* Implementing maritime solutions in the control centres of customers, starting with the undertaking requirements analysis and engineering design.

* Advising customers on technical issues and clarify the feasibility of their requirements together with the internal technical team.

* Supporting the design of the system architecture and optimising the system from a cost-benefit perspective. This will include being the interface to our internal experts (e.g., software and product development or the internal support departments).

* Creation of technical documentation of systems and their interfaces as well as acceptance of internal and external deliverables for assigned work packages.

* System installation, deployment, configuration, integration and formal test and acceptance activities with customers, the project team, and other key stakeholders. These activities may be within the factory and/or on site at the customer's location to achieve System Acceptance with the Customer.

* Performing defect investigation including analysis of incidents and supporting the product development team in resolution and closure of defects as well as and providing feedback on new product versions.

* Provision of 2nd and 3rd level support for the customer and potential be available to support 24/7 on-call service.

* Maintain customer contact in relation to technical matters of the company's solutions.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

* A University qualification to the level of an Australian bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Software, Information Technology, or related discipline.

* Technical education for software solutions, communication solutions, traceability processes and test engineering applicable to the role.

Experience and Skills

* 5+ years of project and/or support experience in Voice Communication Systems with particular focus on safety critical communications.

* Hands-on experience with specification, system installation, integration, and testing and verification.

* Solid network and IT infrastructure knowledge and are familiar with several of the following technologies and tools:

- Windows Server, Linux Server (Redhat, Ubuntu),

- Active Directory, Virtualisation (VMWare),

- Ansible, Cisco network components,

- Docker, Wireshark,

- Powershell, bash scripting,

- GIT, SIP/RTP, HTTP,

- databases (SQL, postgreSQL)
