30 May 2024. Canada. Vancouver orders more SkyTrain light metro trainsets

Vancouver transport agency TransLink has awarded Alstom a C$13m contract to supply a further six five-car MkV trainsets for the SkyTrain automated light metro. They will follow on from a C$722·6m December 2020 order for 41 five-car trainsets which Alstom began delivering in December 2023. ‘This additional order of our made-in-Canada vehicles, specifically designed for Vancouver SkyTrain, will help improve daily commutes’, said Alstom Americas President & CEO Michael Keroullé on May 28.

29 May 2024. China. Hydrogen Shunting Locomotive Hauls 10,000 Tonnes

China’s first high-power hydrogen-powered shunting locomotive, developed by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. and China Energy Group, has completed a 10,000-tonne loading test for the first time. This milestone was completed at Sidaoliu Station on the Bazhun Line of the Xinshuo Railway. From here, the hydrogen-powered locomotive was used to tow 105 C80 vehicles for 2 kilometres at a constant speed.

29 May 2024. Thailand. Thales Thailand extends ETCS on 50 trains

French multinational Thales said it has completed ETCS installation on 50 locomotives in Thailand. The Bangkok arm of Thales signed a deal with Chinese locomotive manufacturer CRRC Qishuyan to deliver the European Train Control System on its trains in Thailand in 2022. The trains are part of the rolling stock on the State Railway of Thailand. Thales Thailand said it installed the “Thales RailBot ETCS On-Board Unit System” which it says is a modular design that will allow upgrades to higher ETCS systems in the future.

29 May 2024. United States. Los Angeles finalises metro car refurbishment contract with Woojin

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has finalised a $210m deal with rolling stock manufacturer Woojin Industrial Systems to refurbish and modernise 74 metro cars. Woojin was the only bidder for the project with its initial bid in December 2022, leading LACMTA to declare it as the preferred bidder in February 2024, but the South Korean company has now finally confirmed the deal with the transit authority.

28 May 2024. United Kingdom. TransPennine Express Train with Battery Technology

In collaboration with Angel Trains and Turntide Technologies, Hitachi Rail has retrofitted battery technology on a TransPennine Express train for trials in the UK. This marks the nation’s first trial to replace a diesel engine with a battery on an intercity train. The battery was built by Hitachi Rail and Turntide Technologies using the North East supply chain. Each battery unit is expected to reduce emissions and fuel costs by as much as 30 percent.

28 May 2024. Australia. New CBD station for Sydney

The new Waterloo Metro Station has finished construction, marking the first time in five years that Sydney has received a new train station. It comes as the New South Wales Government takes another step forward in addressing the state’s housing crisis, with the topping out of a nine-storey building with 70 social homes as part of the Waterloo Metro Quarter development above the new station. The topping out marks construction of this building reaching its highest point. Nearly 19,000 passengers are expected to use the state-of-the-art Waterloo Station each day when it opens.

Our client is seeking a Project Manager to manage and deliver tasks related to the design and the implementation of a multidisciplinary rail project or a portfolio of projects for rail development, as per the approved time schedule for each and in line with the corporate framework and interests.

Key Results Accountabilities:

* Participate in committees and teams related to SCG roles and responsibilities;

* Participate in all claims and disputes raised against the company and provide technical and contractual support and advise to resolve the disputes and protect the company's interests based on the prevailing laws and relevant policies;

* Review, develop and implement policies, procedures and standards

* Ensure availability, performance and security of supported SALIK systems services within agreed service level agreements

* Coordinate with the client's partners concerning requests for information based on the data derived from the Tolling System.

* Prepare technical reports on regular basis to higher management.

* Illegal passenger survey all over Dubai.

* Perform other responsibilities related to the position as appropriate.

* Ensure that all Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental requirements pertaining to the project are in place and monitored as per the project management plan.

* Supervise the contractors team in the design-build projects

* Ensure full compliance for the quality/specification of the materials/products and work done and managing inspection/testing activities regularly during the implementation stages of the project.

* Ensure the coordination with the Stakeholders both internal and external to ensure all their requirements related to handover are fulfilled.

* Carrying out SALIK System analysis as per requirements and standards.

* Analyze the internal tracking database for all incoming applications received from SALIK system from the fines or exemptions as per applied laws.

* Review the Inventory & the management of the issuing process for exemptions and requests from police, ensure, and validate the accuracy of the data and legibility of the applicants to receipt of free SALIK tags.

* Monitor and analyze the performance of SALIK contractor staff who are engaged in complaints resolution to ensure that they all meet the expected service levels agreement.

* Carry out PDI test for brand new buses

* Investigate incidents and service delays; provide appropriate information and suggestions to top management and to take recommend improvement measures.

* Examine the vehicles, diagnose the defects, and determine the mechanical flaws in order to take the necessary action for their repair.

* Ensure SALIK system requirements by defining and analyzing system problems; designing and testing standards and solutions.

* Define DTS (Dubai Toll System) application problem by conferring with and feedback of customers; evaluating procedures and processes.

Education

* Master degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering from recognized university with PMP /Masters preferred.

Key Results Accountabilities:

* Ensure that all Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental requirements pertaining to the project are in place and monitored as per the project management plan.

* Review and evaluate the proposed transit stations plans and their relations to the surrounding land uses and urban developments, and identify necessary changes and adjustments.

* Formulate long-range objectives relative to future land uses along the transit corridors and around transit stations.

* Ensure Coordinate with Stakeholders internal and external to ensure all their requirements related to Handover are fulfilled

* Ensure full compliance for the quality/specification of the materials/products and work done and managing inspection/testing activities regularly during the implementation stages of the project.

* Ensure the compliance of project handover in accordance with company project management policies and process

* Conduct field investigations, and compile and analyze data on demographic, economic, physical and other factors affecting planning of transit corridors.

* Initiate and manage/contribute to urban planning/ ridership studies/initiative and Projects.

* Ensure the list of snags and outstanding works is complete and properly followed up during the Defect Notification Period (DNP)

* Coordinate with government planning authorities and other local agencies regarding land parcels designated or to be designated to Dubai Metro in terms of land use, zoning and issuing site plans.

* Review and evaluate context planning around transit stations and prepare planning recommendations.

* Ensure the list of snags and outstanding works is complete and properly followed up during the Defect Notification Period (DNP)

* Prepare ROW land acquisition plans for the transit lines and follow up the approval procedures with concerned government authorities.

* Review and evaluate proposals for land uses and development plans and prepare recommendations.

* Prepare & present technical information & reports to a variety of audiences

* Investigate, identify and analyze the impact of rail projects on existing urban communities, specifically on areas around rail stations, and propose improvement policies and urban upgrading solutions.

Job Requirements:

Education

* Bachelor degree in Architecture / Civil from a recognized university.
