13 March 2024. Ireland. AtkinsRéalis awarded five-year framework contract with Northern Ireland rail operator

AtkinsRéalis has been appointed by Translink – Northern Ireland’s main public transport operator – to provide design and construction management on its rail network’s signalling and telecommunications. AtkinsRéalis is one of two suppliers to win a place on a competitive framework, which has a total estimated value of £150 million-£250 million and will run until 2029, with the option to extend by a further 36 months. Translink operates passenger rail and bus services in Northern Ireland. Its rail network covers around 300 miles of track which facilitate almost 13 million passenger journeys annually.

13 March 2024. United States. Biden-Harris Administration Proposes $4 Billion for Key Transit Projects

The Biden-Harris Administration has announced the availability of nearly 4 billion USD in federal support for 14 transit construction projects across the US. The recommended projects were announced by US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to be included in President Biden’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Budget Request to Congress. Spanning across 11 states, these rail and bus rapid transit (BRT) projects aim to deliver transformative change for new and existing transit riders. This funding is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, which is investing nearly 100 billion USD from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to support transit agencies.

13 March 2024. China. CRRC Delivers First Train for Rail Transit Ziyang Line

The first train made by CRRC for the Rail Transit Ziyang Line in China has been delivered. The vehicle consists of four cars and has a maximum operating speed of 160 kilometres per hour. It has been design to run with fast start and stop times without producing significant noise pollution. The new model is expected to deliver an enhanced passenger experience on the Ziyang Line. This urban line connects Chengdu Tianfu New District, Eastern New District and Ziyang City. Upon operation, it will significantly increase the transport capacity in Chengdu City and Ziyang City.

13 March 2024. Portugal. Alstom enhancing connectivity in Portugal

Alstom has announced that it has been awarded a contract to supply the signalling, safety and control systems for the metro in Porto, Portugal. Covering the Metro do Porto’s pink line, Alstom will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Cityflo 250 signalling system on the city’s new line. This system includes state of the art interlocking to enable real-time vehicle monitoring, and will be developed at Alstom’s Maia site in Porto itself. Access to the centre of the city will be supported by the first section of the pink line, which is 3 kilometres in length and is served by four underground stations.

13 March 2024. France. SNCF Réseau awards €1.8 Billion contract for French rail network regeneration

SNCF Réseau is awarding one of its biggest calls for tenders for work to regenerate the network over the next 7 years. It involves massive track renewal work on conventional lines and the renewal of switches and ballast on high-speed lines and renewal of switches and ballast on high-speed lines, for a total value 1.8 billion euros. This call for tenders for railway work is one of the largest awarded by SNCF Réseau to date. The average age of the French rail network is currently around 30 years.

13 March 2024. United Kingdom. Manchester Metrolink gets further investment

Metrolink, the branding of the familiar yellow trams in Manchester, is to see a further 21.4 million pounds (just over 25 million euro) investment. The local authority has approved the programme of works to improve several short-term issues on the extensive network. The budget is for implementation in the next twelve months. Manchester Metrolink passenger numbers are back to pre-pandemic levels during the weekday peak times and even busier on weekends.

8 March 2024. India. PM Modi opens India’s first underwater metro link in Kolkata

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opened the country’s first partially underwater metro line during a trip to Kolkata to inaugurate a number of new lines. The underwater metro is part of Howrah Maidan to Esplanade metro in Kolkata and goes under the Hooghly river, connecting the twin cities with a 520m tunnel. Modi described it as a “proud moment” to ride the through the underwater tunnel, saying: “It’s a very special day for the people of Kolkata as the city’s metro network gets significantly enhanced. Connectivity will get a boost and traffic will get decongested.”

Our client is the looking for a Senior Architect to be responsible to review pre-contract architectural designs for all Rail Agency projects to ensure the designs are fit for purpose and fully satisfies the objectives of the client.

Candidates must be fluent in Arabic in order to be considered for this role.

Key Accountabilities:

* Participate in the prequalification of consultants and contractors.

* Monitor and manage the development of architectural designs and planning issues in the pre-contract stage to ensure designs are value engineered, fit for purpose and efficient.

* Ensure full compliance for the quality/specification of the materials/products and work done and managing inspection/testing activities regularly during the implementation stages of the project.

* Ensure the compliance of project handover in accordance with project management policies and process

* Ensure the list of snags and outstanding works is complete and properly followed up during the Defect Notification Period (DNP)

* Lead the preparation of design concepts in consideration to stake holder and customers' requirements.

* Review /comment on all submissions/RFP related to Architecture Discipline including but not limited to Design Criteria/specifications/ Signage/landscape/Station planning/Stations simulation?etc.

* Perform other responsibilities associated with the position as appropriate.

* Incorporate the concept of sustainability to all projects involved where possible and as per the latest directives from the Authorized Government Body within the Emirates of Dubai.

Project Value: 4.2 billion USD

They are looking for an experienced Engineer to take on the role of Chief Engineer Systems Works to:

* Organise, hire staff entrusted to them and plans the expert supervision of all engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning works/works on systems and rolling stock;

* Conduct a detailed review of the Contractor's plans and programs and gives recommendations to the Client, who ultimately decides on these matters. Participates in the activities of the Contractor in the planning and

* Prepare the dynamic work schedule by providing advice, recommendations, references to specifications, etc.

* Approve the plans and programs of the Contractor.

* Organise the monitoring of the progress of works in accordance with the adopted dynamic Issues orders to the Contractor to correct defects. Ensures that the Contractor receives instructions, recommendations, approvals, etc. on time in order to avoid the delay of works and claims by the Contractor.

* Check whether the installed materials are provided with the necessary attestations, certificates, as well as other documentation proving the quality and whether they meet the appropriate standards.

Our client is seeking an Engineer - Electromechanical Systems Maintenance to assist with activities on the Blue Line Metro Project in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Job Purpose: Initiate follow-up and coordinate of all rail Electrical & Mechanical systems maintenance initiatives and activities of Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram.

Key Results Accountabilities:

* Plan and Conduct site visits and submit report, as necessary, to ensure high RAMS standard of Electrical & Mechanical systems with monitoring the progress.

* Monitoring and analysing Electrical & Mechanical systems performance and failure trend/statistics and report recommend action plan to the O&M contractor for enhancement.

* Initiate, follow-up and coordinate all Electrical & Mechanical maintenance initiatives and activities.
