9 February 2023. United Kingdom. Docklands Light Railway trains unveiled

The first of 52 automated light metro trainsets which CAF is supplying for London’s Docklands Light Railway was unveiled at Beckton depot on February 8. The 750 V DC third-rail driverless trainsets are expected to enter service from between 2024 and 2026. The five-car trainsets have wide walk-through gangways, real-time audio and visual passenger information, air-conditioning and mobile device charging points. There are three multi-purpose areas for pushchairs, bicycles and luggage, and three dedicated wheelchair spaces.

9 February 2023. Hyperloop pioneers establish first international Hyperloop Association

Hyperloop developing companies Hardt, Hyperloop One, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Nevomo, TransPod, Swisspod Technologies, and Zeleros joined forces to form ‘The Hyperloop Association’, the first global association within the hyperloop industry, the companies announced this week. The constitutive act of the association was already signed back in December 2022 by the seven initiating companies. The royal decree establishing the association is expected in the next weeks, followed by an official announcement of the association.

9 February 2023. United Arab Emirates. CRRC to supply passenger trains to the UAE

ETIHAD Rail has signed a contract with CRRC Qingdao Sifang for the supply of three 200km/h passenger trains, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed. The contract reportedly signed on January 31 includes an option for 20 additional trains and a 15-year maintenance agreement. The trains will consist of a diesel locomotive, five passenger coaches, and a driving trailer vehicle.

9 February 2023. United Kingdom. Alstom opens national Training Academy in Derby

120 new apprentices and graduates are set to benefit from Alstom’s newly opened Training Academy located in Derby.Alstom has opened its new Apprentice Training Academy during of National Apprenticeship Week 2023. Following an investment of £250,000 over the last two years, the new Training Academy was officially opened by Derby MP, Dame Margaret Beckett, accompanied by Nick Crossfield, Managing Director of Alstom UK & Ireland.

8 February 2023. Bangladesh. Work starts on Dhaka’s second metro line

Construction of the second metro line in Dhaka, designated as Line 1, was ceremonially launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on February 2. The city’s first metro line, Line 6, opened in December.

The 31·2 km Line 1 will have two branches and will include the first underground section of route through the city, as Line 6 is entirely elevated. The 19·9 km underground section will link Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the north with Kamalapur in the south, serving 12 stations.

8 February 2023. India. Delhi-Meerut RRTS’ TBM S89 Records Breakthrough at Meerut Central

Tunnel boring machine S89 operated by Afcons Infrastructure on Tuesday recorded its first tunnel breakthrough at Meerut Central RRTS Station for the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS project.This 7.51m diameter Terratec Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machine, nicknamed Sudarshan 8.2, was from Bhaisali RRTS Station in in April 2022. From Bhaisali it travelled roughly 1824 meters, for Package 8’s longest tunneling drive, towards Meerut Central Station. Along the way it made a pit-stop at a mid-shaft located 695.85 meters south of Bhaisali Station.

7 February 2023. Australia. Contract awarded for $7 billion train program

The Queensland Government has awarded the contract to build and deliver 65 next generation trains in the Maryborough region. The project is part of the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program and is set to create hundreds of jobs for manufacturing workers. The contract has been awarded to Downer. Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said the initial plan was to build 20 new trains in Maryborough but planning indicated a need for another 45 trains. “That means 800 good, secure jobs here in Maryborough to deliver 65 trains,” Ms Palaszczuk said. “This will be a game changer that secures the future of manufacturing for Maryborough.”

3 February 2023. United States. $2.5 Billion to Expand Passenger Rail Services in California

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced more than 2.5 billion USD in funding for 16 ongoing public transport projects that will expand and improve transit and passenger rail services throughout the state. This is part of a multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment to upgrade California’s transit system to enhance mobility options and reduce dependence on driving. The grants are administered by the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) as part of the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP).

1 February 2023. United Kingdom. Elizabeth line welcomes over 100 million passenger journeys since opening

Data from Transport for London has revealed that more customers than expected have taken advantage of the Elizabeth line since its opening in May 2022. The Elizabeth line, which stretches from Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, has now seen more than one hundred million journeys since opening in May 2022. Transport for London (TfL) data has revealed that ridership on the line is currently above expected levels with around 600,000 journeys made each day, meaning the railway is one of the busiest in the UK and is on track to break even by the end of the 2023/24 financial year. The data clearly shows the popularity of the capital’s newest transport option and the benefit of investing in transport in London.

They are looking for an experienced Construction Manager for the position of Deputy Construction and Installation Manager (Depot). The person will report to the Construction & Installation Manager and will be responsible for assisting in the management of the construction and installation activities for the E&M Systems comprising Signalling, Telecommunications, Platform Screen Doors, FSCADA, Power Supply, Trackwork, OCS, Depot and Workshop Equipment, AFC and Signage/Graphics for the Depot areas of the HCMC Line 1 Project.

The Deputy C&I Manager (Depot) will be responsible for the following works:

* Manage, monitor, and coordinate Subsystems & Subcontractors Wayside and Building works within the Depot areas. Wayside works include:

(i) Track work

(ii) Overhead Contact System

(iii) Cabling and general installation works

Building works include:

(iv) Workshop buildings

(v) Depot & maintenance, operation(OCC) buildings

(vi) Power supply buildings

* Assisting in the development if the installation strategy including number of teams, installation labour supply strategy, installation rate, cycle times (production rates), temporary storage and access locations in accordance with the contract access and completion dates leading up to handover for testing and completion of works in time for Rolling Stock delivery/ testing.

* Using the installation strategy, assist the C& I Manager in the development the Construction and Installation Management Plan and any other necessary plans, and assist in developing coordinated programmes for installation at the depot, stations, ancillary buildings and track (elevated and underground).

* Identifying the installation teams or other resources required to manage the installation activities for the works, supervise the works and other installation management tasks, agreeing implementation with the C&I Manager

* Assisting in the development and implementing the arrangements for site handover from and hand back to the interfacing parties and/or Employer.

* Organising installation risk assessments, developing and implementing installation work method statements incorporating safe working methods required as deliverables for Construction and Installation submissions.

* Manage and coordinate the installation activities of all parties throughout the implementation phase acting as the day-to-day point of contact for internal installers and installation sub-contractors.

* Developing and implementing procedures for site supervision, site safety and security, monitoring progress of the works, installation quality management and installation tests prior to handover for testing.

* Assisting Sub System Managers in the development of the Sub System specific Method Statements and associated documentation required for the works.

The Deputy C&I Manager will be required to liaise with Sub-System Managers covering each of the disciplines and dealing with internal and external suppliers. These sub-systems managers and other managers such as planning, health and safety etc. will assist in providing input to the deliverables in line with the overall installation strategy led by Construction and Installation Manager. The post holder will be required to interact with the Employer, Employer"s Representative, Interfacing Contractors and local authorities in performing the duties and to take on any Tasks related to C&I instructed by the C&I Manager or the Project Manager.

- At least bachelor degree with electrical engineering major

- At least 10 years Experience in working as C&I Deputy manager / C&I manager for an E&M contractor on Rail

Our client is looking for Four Train Test Drivers for a new Metro Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project during the testing and commissioning (T&C) phase of the driverless trains.

The location where the work would take place is the Dhaka MRT Depot at Diabari Road, Dhaka, Dhaka Division, which is north of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and takes about fifteen (15) minutes by car from the airport.

The working period for the above Train Drivers would be from 1 March 2023 for approximately six (6) months with a possibility of an extension.

Principal Signalling Engineer On Board, Brisbane, Australia

They are looking for an experienced Signal Engineer to be based in Brisbane to deliver complete On-Board Signalling Design for complex Signalling Projects in accordance with Industry and Company standards and procedures.

Accountabilities

- To ensure the delivery of On-Board HW and functional signalling design training documents to improve knowledge of company standard applications (e.g. ETCS, CBTC, SCMT, TVM) and platforms (e.g. ALA, DIVA, ELO) and on specific different installation conditions fro different trains (e.g. balise receiver , track circuit sensors, radio equipment and antennas).

- Ensure gathering and chairing technical reviews to detect design errors,process or tool inefficiencies and ensure the identification and monitor the implementation of corrective and improvement actions. and with reference to On-Board Signalling Design for complex Signalling projects

- Ensure the review of On-Board Signalling Design requirements allocation and gap analysis and demonstrate the compliance of configuration design documents by the traceability.

- Ensure the delivery of On-Board Signalling design in accordance with Customer requirements , industry and company standards and processes.

- Guarantee the assigned deliverables (documents and design)are produced in compliance with industry standards for rolling stock applications ( e.g. EN50155, EN50121-3-2, EN50125-11, EN61373, EN45545-2, UIC 505-1) and with Company processes and standard solutions.

- Guarantee that the On -Board Signalling technical solution is effectively communicated and defended (understand and provide reasons for technical choices in design)

- Ensure the effective interfacing and cross collaboration on On-Board signalling design related matters with other company functions involved in the project

- Ensure the execution of the Verification activities on issued documents according to the V&V plan.

- Guarantee the functional analysis of the Validation feedback and on site tests

- Cooperate with Signalling Engineering to ensure that Wayside and On-Board Design interact properly

Performance Criteria:

- Completion of the design work packages on schedule an in accordance with the planned budget

- Number of improvements or corrective actions put in place on detected errors.
