28 October 2025. United Kingdom. Alstom Begins Construction on New Elizabeth Line Trains

Construction has officially begun on the first of an additional 10 new Elizabeth line trains at Alstom’s manufacturing site in Derby. The new Aventra Class 345 trains were ordered with UK Government funding and will allow Transport for London (TfL) to increase overall capacity on the line, which now sees an average of 800,000 passengers each day. Rob Whyte, Managing Director UK and Ireland at Alstom, said: Our historic Derby Litchurch Lane Works are crucial to the country's economic growth.

28 October 2025. United States. Salt Lake City doubles ‘built in Utah for Utah’ light rail vehicle order

Utah Transit Authority has ordered a further 20 Stadler Citylink light rail vehicles for TRAX services around Salt Lake City, taking its total order to 40. The order announced by Stadler on October 28 has been placed under an October 2024 contract, which included a $129m firm order for an initial 20 LRVs with options to order up to 60 more, subject to funding being secured. Stadler said its first LRVs for the US market will be custom-designed for UTA.

27 October 2025. Czech Republic. EIB to provide $232m to modernise the Czech Republic’s rail network

Upgrades will target regional railways as well as lines within the EU’s Trans European Transport Network, with work due to be completed by 2030. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to provide the Czech Republic with a loan of Kč5bn ($232m), to support the upgrade of the country’s railway infrastructure. The Czech Ministry of Finance will distribute the funds via the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure to the national rail infrastructure manager, Správa železnic, which will oversee the execution of the project.

27 October 2025. Denmark. København tramway opens to make it faster and more comfortable to get around

Trams have returned to København after 53 years, with music, family entertainment and a day of free travel marking the opening of the first phase of the Hovedstadens Letbane line on October 26. The Hovedstadens Letbane (capital city light rail) line runs 13·1 km around the capital’s western suburbs, following the O3 ring road from Ishøj north to Rødovre Nord with 12 stops. Services operate via a 400 m branch to Glostrup station with a reversal. The second phase running north from Rødovre.

27 October 2025.South Korea. South Korean government sets out prototype hydrogen trainset testing programme

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport has confirmed the start of testing of a hydrogen multiple-unit prototype from December 2027. Development of the train started in April as part of a 32·1bn won national research and development programme. The vehicle is being developed jointly by several domestic institutions and companies, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport, national operator Korail, manufacturer Woojin Industrial Systems, Korea Railroad Research Institute, Korea Iron & Steel Research Institute, and the Korea Agency for Infrastructure.

24 October 2025. Australia. Preferred bidder for Suburban Rail Loop stations

A preferred bidder has been chosen to build the new underground stations at Glen Waverley, Burwood, and Box Hill – a huge step forward for Melbourne’s Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East. Place is a consortium of John Holland, Kellogg Brown and Root, and Arup and has deep experience delivering major infrastructure projects, including experience on Metro Tunnel, Sydney Metro, WestConnex, and Inland Rail. The SRL East stations will be fully accessible, light-filled spaces with plazas, retail, and dining

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Facility Manager who can;

Manage the day-to-day running of Freight Terminals, including operations as required

· Shift supervision of the Terminal Operator teams

· Manages the handover between main-line and Freight Facility for the territories under control

· Operate signalling and route setting equipment to facilitate train arrival and departure

· Operate signalling equipment to facilitate any required shunting activities

· Monitors telecommunications equipment (including Emergency Phones, Administrative Phones, CRs, Network alarms, as vital, non-vital, BMIS, GSM-R, Master Clock)

· Manages regular and emergency calls (through ICSS and telephones on the desk).

· Responsible for the effective handover to the relieving controller (shift handover) of the current rail and equipment status, abnormal events, faults, ongoing maintenance activities, and outstanding works. Detects alarms that are sent from APS and checks and modifies, through the dedicated area of the ICSS iHMI, the RFID tags' readings and performs synchronization with the local controller.

· Plan and manage the activity rail yard to maximize the efficiency of the terminal

· Input data as required to support the Terminals Operating System

· Oversee rail terminal maintenance activities as required

· Monitor the Terminals Operations team staffing levels in accordance with the plan

· Report any shortfall of the Terminal Operations team to the location manager for correction.

Lead and assist the Terminals Operations team to ensure total compliance with all safety requirements.

Job Requirements:

An Engineering Degree is advantageous or 10 years in a similar role
