8 November 2023. Asia. Kuala Lumpur – Singapore high speed rail proposal deadline extended

The deadline for potential bidders to submit proposals for undertaking the revived Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail project has been extended to January 15 2024. On November 7 Malaysian project promoter MyHSR Corp said more than 60% of the companies which had indicated their intention to submit concept proposals by the original deadline of November 15 had requested as an extension, because they required more time to form consortia with potential partners and explore financial options.

7 November 2023. Taiwan. Kaohsiung Yellow Line civils contract awarded

Kaohsiung’s Mass Rapid Transit Bureau has awarded an 88:12 joint venture of Gamuda and Asia World Engineering & Construction Co the Yellow Line contract YC01 covering civil works in the NiaoSong district. The 107-month design and build contract awarded on October 25 is worth NT$23·4bn. It covers 0·9 km of elevated metro track with one elevated station provisionally designated Y1, and 3·5 km of twin-bore tunnel with three underground stations designated Y2, Y3 and Y4, the latter at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

7 November 2023. Australia. Sydney Metro Completes Test Run from Tallawong to Sydenham

This is the latest milestone in the testing and commissioning programme that began earlier this year ahead of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest route opening in 2024. With this run, the metro train completed its first continuous trip along the full length of the new alignment between Tallawong and Sydenham. This 51.5-kilometre test took four hours, with the train reaching the maximum speed of 100 kilometres per hour in sections of tunnel between Epping and Sydenham.

6 November 2023. Singapore. Singapore announces high-speed rail test track completion

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the completion of the $640m Singapore Rail Test Centre’s (SRTC’s) first phase, which involves introducing its high-speed test track to service. Completion followed two years of construction on a site of approximately 50 hectares. The SRTC will serve as a “comprehensive testing platform” for several railway systems, including signalling, communications, power and integrated supervisory control systems before they are implemented on main lines.

6 November 2023. United States. Amtrak Awarded Nearly $10 Billion for NEC Projects

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded nearly 10 billion USD to Amtrak for the modernisation of critical infrastructure and stations and to support a future increase in ridership on the Northeast Corridor (NEC). This funding will be used to replace ageing tunnels, bridges and tracks; improve safety, reliability and travel speeds; and increase capacity on the NEC, America’s busiest rail corridor.

6 November 2023. India. Mumbai Metro Line 7A’s TBM Dhruv Starts Tunneling at CSIA

J Kumar Infraprojects (JKIL) on Saturday commissioned their second tunnel boring machine, T60, for Mumbai Metro Red Line’s 3.17 km Line-7A (Gundavali – CSIA) at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport’s Terminal 2 Station. Nicknamed TBM Dhruv, this Ø6.68m dual-mode Terratec machine was previously deployed in 2018-2021 by J Kumar – CRTG JV on Mumbai Metro Line-3’s 4.94 km package UGC-05 (Dharavi Station – CSIA T1) and 4.45 km package UGC-06 (CSIA T1 – Marol Naka).

6 November 2023. United Kingdom. Alstom extends partnership with CrossCountry

Alstom has successfully clinched an extensive eight-year contract extension with CrossCountry in the United Kingdom, a substantial agreement valued at approximately 950 million euros. This contract extension serves as a concrete testament to the enduring partnership and the trust CrossCountry has vested in Alstom. As part of this extended agreement, Alstom is committed to maintaining, overhauling, servicing, and cleaning CrossCountry’s Voyager and Super Voyager fleet until 2031.

6 November 2023. Australia. ARTC rolling out 4G network upgrade

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is rolling out a 4G capability upgrade to its National Train Communications System (NTCS), which is expected to be completed by June 2024. The NTCS utilises the Telstra mobile network and In Cab Equipment (ICE) units to provide train to network control communications on the ARTC network nationally. The NTCS upgrade will provide additional communications service options and increased capability for ARTC and train operators and will ensure that network equipment is prepared for a 5G upgrade in the future.
