22 July 2026. United Kingdom. HS2 prepares for major motorway bridging works
Engineers are preparing to deliver two huge construction programmes in tandem, as work progresses to extend the high-speed railway over the Midlands motorway network. To minimise disruption for motorists, engineers will work on the Water Orton viaducts and the “twin box” structure over the M42 at the same time during three separate weekend closures in July, August and September. All structures are being extended over the M42 between Solihull and Water Orton.

21 July 2026. Canada. Québec City’s TramCité Project Contracts Siemens Mobility and AtkinsRéalis
Siemens Mobility and AtkinsRéalis have been selected by CDPQ Infra to advance the next phase of the TramCité light rail project in Québec City. The companies will work under a progressive design-build model as part of the planned 19-kilometre tramway, which will include 29 stations and a two-kilometre underground section. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with passenger services scheduled to commence in 2033.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority and the High Desert Corridor Joint Powers Agency (HDC JPA) have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen coordination in developing California’s future high-speed rail network. The agreement focuses on closer collaboration over environmental approvals, station integration and design, with particular attention given to the planned Palmdale Station, which is expected to form a key interchange within the state’s wider rail network.

New figures from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) have confirmed that GB Railfreight (GBRf) is now the largest rail freight operator in Great Britain, accounting for 31.4% of all freight train kilometres and 33.3% of freight vehicle kilometres across the national network. 21 July 2026. India. Modi launches Indian domestic hydrogen train
Indian Railways’ prototype hydrogen fuel cell-powered multiple-unit entered revenue service on July 19, operating on the 89 km Jind – Gohana – Sonipat section of the Northern Railway. Formed of two power cars equipped with a 1 200 kW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system and eight passenger cars, the trainset had been formally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi two days earlier. The HMU has been developed and manufactured at IR’s Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.

20 July 2026. Australia. World-first all-women tunnelling crew gets prepped
Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East’s world-first all-women tunnel boring machine (TBM) crew is undertaking specialist training and gaining hands-on experience ahead of tunnelling works commencing later this year. The all-women crew is a world-first initiative to help bring more women into the construction and tunnelling industries. Members include women with prior experience in tunnelling and construction, as well as those who have come from retail, hospitality and other sectors.

Network Rail Consulting (NRC) has secured a significant $26 million (£20m approx.) contract with the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit), marking a major expansion of its North American footprint. The three-year deal will see NRC deliver comprehensive asset management support services across Sound Transit’s rapidly growing Link light rail network.The contract comes at a pivotal time for Sound Transit as it continues to expand its light rail operations, placing increased emphasis on enhancing reliability, maintenance efficiency, and long-term asset performance.

17 July 2026.Philippines.DOTr and LRTA launch open-loop fare payment system on LRT-2
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) have launched an interoperable automated fare collection system on Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), enabling passengers to pay fares using EMV debit, credit and prepaid cards, NFC-enabled mobile wallets, and GCash QR. The system has been implemented in partnership with Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) and Visa, making LRT-2 the first rail line in the Philippines to integrate open-loop EMV card payments, mobile NFC and QR payments on a single fare collection platform.

Roles and Responsibilities
Accountabilities:
Strategy
* Develop rolling stock maintenance strategies with KPIs and optimisation initiatives aligned to operational and strategic objectives.
* Support the preparation of functional requirements and technical specifications for rolling stock and associated procurements.
* Provide technical expertise in tender evaluations, apply value engineering principles, and oversee contractor performance on projects.
* Supervise all technical systems related to rolling stock and mass transit maintenance, ensuring system sustainability and integration with internal and external platforms.
* Maintain risk register, oversee hazard mitigation measures, verify safety cases, and manage variations/claims related to rolling stock and associated systems.
Operations
* Monitor rolling stock maintenance contracts to ensure quality, compliance, and timely execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programmes.
* Review and evaluate contractor submissions related to design, installation, and maintenance of subsystems including HVAC, propulsion, brakes, TCMS, and doors.
* Coordinate cross-functional interfaces involving signalling, SCADA, power, depot, and communications to ensure seamless implementation and serviceability.
* Lead and supervise Factory and Site Acceptance Testing activities; oversee commissioning, technical inspections, and quality assurance for assets.

Our client is seeking local Malaysian candidates for this role and ideally, candidates should be registered Architects with LAM (Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia).
Responsibilities:
Determine project goals to ensure the project supports business objectives and strategies.
Take the role of a Project Lead in project administration and design issues.
Lead and manage a team of architectural personnel to ensure efficient use of resources.
Prepare master programme / schedules and monitor project milestones.
Track project deliverable and ensure projects are completed within budget and meets an acceptable quality standard.
Monitor and track internal project team time and cost
Ensure timely submission to all deadline commitment.

Liaise and coordinate with consultants on all specific design, building requirement and code compliance.
