9 June 2026. Australia. Tunnel project earns top sustainability marks
Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel project has received the highest sustainability ratings available from both the Green Building Council of Australia and the Infrastructure Sustainability Council, recognising its environmental, social and economic performance across design, construction and operation. The Metro Tunnel’s five new stations, Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac, have each achieved 6 Star Green Star As-Built certification from the Green Building Council of Australia, the organization’s highest rating.

9 June 2026. United Kingdom. Costain wins place on £700m Transport for London framework
Costain, the infrastructure solutions company, has been selected by Transport for London (TfL) to join its Infrastructure Improvement Framework. The multi-discipline framework, covering both design and construction, will allow for major infrastructure upgrades across the capital. This includes upgrade work at South Kensington tube station and works to enable TfL’s step-free access programme. Costain was one of three successful suppliers joining the framework.

9 June 2026. India. Indian Railways approves electric traction upgrade on Telangana rail route
Indian Railways has approved the upgrade of the electric traction system on the Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal section of South-Central Railway. This section is a part of India’s important High-Density Network (HDN) routes. The project will cover approximately 141 route-kilometres of this rail corridor and will be implemented at a cost of ₹285.01 crore. Under the project, the existing 1×25 kV electric traction system will be upgraded to a modern 2×25 kV electric traction system.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority has identified a consortium of private companies that could help finance and develop sections of the state’s high-speed rail network beyond the Central Valley. During a recent board meeting, CEO Ian Choudri affirmed that the agency intends to award a co-development agreement to Momentum Alliance Partners by the end of June. The consortium includes infrastructure investors, engineering firms and rail operators from several countries.

US wagon manufacturing and leasing company Trinity Industries has taken a 32% stake in the Touax Texmaco Railcar Leasing joint venture. Trinity CEO & President Jean Savage said the Indian market ‘represents a compelling long-term opportunity for rail freight growth’, and the joint venture would offer ‘advanced wagon designs, lease finance experience and lifecycle expertise’.

Transport for Wales (TfW) is entering the final phase of preparations ahead of the introduction of its first brand new tram-trains, with Pontypridd to Cardiff Bay services set to be the first to benefit later this summer. Driver and train manager training is now well advanced, with test runs taking place on an almost daily basis as TfW moves closer to passenger service. The new fleet marks a major milestone in the delivery of the South Wales Metro, one of the most ambitious rail transformation programmes in the UK.

Thailand’s Ministry of Transport is preparing to seek Cabinet approval for a new integrated fare structure of THB17–45 per trip across Bangkok’s electric rail network as part of a broader plan to place all urban rail lines under the management of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA). The proposal is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet, and forms part of the government’s efforts to establish a unified rail management and ticketing system.

Rolling stock leasing and rail freight services company Traxtion has concluded a US$86m equity capital injection, providing funding for its R3.4bn rolling stock investment programme as reforms increase private-sector participation in the rail freight market. The funding programme was completed through two complementary transactions facilitated by Pallidus Capital. The first saw existing shareholder Harith (through the Pan African Infrastructure Development Fund II SA and Harith InfraCo) and STANLIB Infrastructure Investments (backed by Standard Bank) invest in November 2025.

The Government of Vietnam has visited several advanced technology and transport infrastructure facilities in Singapore on May 30, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation in innovation, digital transformation and urban transport development. The visit focused on Singapore’s experience in fostering technology adoption, industrial innovation and railway system management. During a visit to the A*STAR Model Factory, To Lam examined Singapore’s approach to enabling businesses to test advanced technologies before large-scale deployment.

Our client is an engineering consultancy, and they are seeking an Electrical Earthing Design Engineer to work in Newcastle, Melbourne or Perth.
As a professional electrical engineer, you will conduct technical reporting and analysis tasks, on-site testing and commissioning activities along with project management and client interfacing. Your engineering and project experience will be key to assist the client to deliver the following as part of collaborative team against relevant Australian and International standards:
- Earthing system design, analysis and compliance assessments is essential.
- Lightning protection system design, analysis and compliance assessments.
- Low frequency interference studies.
- Protection grading studies and HV power system load flow investigations and analysis.
- Knowledge of Australian standards relating to high voltage and electrical installations.
- Prepare quality deliverables consistent with client expectations
- Manage work packages to achieve quality, budgetary and programme expectations
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Assist and mentor less experienced team members
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree (or higher)

Our client is bidding for work on rail projects in Singapore and they are seeking suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the role of Project Manager.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and deliver a specific programme of work, on time, to budget and to other agreed success criteria within corporate guidelines including the client requirements.
* Work with the client to establish an effective relationship supporting effective delivery, performance measurement and management of Change. This should encompass where appropriate communications with outside bodies.
* Develop and manage the Project team (including external suppliers), monitoring adequate resources available to deliver a flexible, competent, skilled and effective workforce at all times.
* Achieve the programme outturn and margins as agreed with the Principal Project Manager.
* Develop an appropriate strategy for the development and delivery of the Project work scope.
* Identify priority opportunities within the programme and lead promotion and sharing of best practice between project team.
* Monitor planning so that it considers cross-programme requirements and supports the effective delivery of contracted obligations.
* Undertake accident investigation when remitted by the relevant designated competent person
* Identify and implement quality and efficiency improvement initiatives.
* Lead and inspire the team to maintain full engagement in meeting business objectives. *Manage and comply with company procedures to provide appropriate resources, communication strategies, training, competency and evaluate fitness of staff to safely deliver their accountabilities.
* Act upon and discharge of, all safety, timeline, quality and specification obligations for projects as directed.
Job Requirements
* Minimum 10 years of engineering experience with a recognized degree in either Civil/Mechanical/Railway Engineering or Tier 2 Accreditation (Professional Project Manager) by Society of Project Managers (SPM).
* At least 8 years of experience in managing design and construction teams for railway projects of at least SGD100 million contract sum.
