25 January 2024. India. Wabtec to supply brake systems for Indian Railway’s next-gen locomotives

Wabtec Corporation will supply brake systems for Indian Railways’ ‘next generation’ fleet of 1,200 locomotives after signing a $157m order with Siemens in India. The significant order, agreed with the mobility business of Siemens India, covers all of the 9,000 horsepower (HP) electric locomotives being built in India and continues a long-term relationship between the two manufacturers in the country. Sujatha Narayan, senior vice president and India regional leader for Wabtec, said: “Wabtec is committed to the delivery of high performance and safety critical products for the Indian market.

25 January 2024. United Kingdom. New British Steel rail stocking facility will boost Network Rail supply chain

British Steel is building a new £10 million rail stocking facility, the biggest of its kind in the country. The facility, at the company’s Scunthorpe site, is scheduled to be completed this summer and will stock around 25,000 tonnes of 108-metre finished rail. The investment is part of our British Steel’s strategy to support the supply of 56E1 and 60E2 section rails for Network Rail, ensuring there is rail stock readily available for its supply chain.

25 January 2024. France. Paris metro line 4 fully embraces automation

Paris Metro Line 4 is now fully automated, marking a milestone in the modernisation of the city’s transportation network. Line 4 is the third Parisian line to be fully automatic, with lines 1 and 14. The project, completed on 17 December 2023, represents a forward-looking investment of approximately 480 million euros, entirely funded by Île-de-France Mobilités. Line 4, the second busiest in the Île-de-France Mobilités network, has successfully embraced a new era of transportation.

24 January 2024. Germany. DB Regio Orders High-Capacity EMUs from Alstom

Alstom has received an order to supply 18 modern Coradia Max electric multiple-unit (EMU) trains to DB Regio AG. This delivery will include nine three-car and nine five-car trains to operate on the regional express line RE1 between Hamburg and Rostock from December 2027. Once the line between Bad Kleinen and Lübeck has been electrified and a connecting curve has been constructed, these vehicles will also run as far as Lübeck.

23 January 2024. Turkey. Another Turkey high-speed project receives €1bn international backing

Turkey’s latest high-speed project will benefit from a €1.247bn ($1.351bn) financing package, including a €1.027bn loan guaranteed by the export credit agencies of the UK, Italy, Austria, and Poland. The package, which will allow Turkey to continue developing the 140km line, also includes a €220m commercial loan facility partly supported by the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC). The loan funding is to be spent on developing a regional line between Yerköy and Kayseri, both in central Anatolia.

23 January 2024. Peru. Peru’s first underground metro sees half a million visitors in first month

Peru’s first underground metro line has welcomed more than half a million passengers in its first month according to the Urban Transportation Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU). The 5km stage 1A section of the Lima metro Line 2 opened on 21 December 2023 and has already seen 530,000 passengers pass through its five stations with a peak of 26,401 in one day on 18 January. Connecting Evitamiento to Mercado Santa Anita, the first phase of the underground line is offering free travel to the public during a 90 day trial period in the hope that people in the city will become familiar with the train before tickets are introduced.

23 January 2024. Hong Kong. Hong Kong Metro gets brand new trains

Hong Kong's MTR Corporation has announced a long-awaited upgrade for the Island Line, with the new eight-car trains rolling into service on 28 January. The new trains mark a significant milestone in the company's ambitious train renewal project, following the successful rollout on the Kwun Tong Line in late 2022. The Q-Trains have been built by Chinese manufacturer, CRRC and will be replacing the aging Metro-Cammell EMU’s. Those trains have been in service on Hong Kong’s metro system since the nineties and the new trains form part of a wider HKD 6 billion deal for 93 new trains.

23 January 2024. Australia. Milestone reached in Inland Rail construction

Construction on the Inland Rail project powers on with a major bridge one step closer to being completed. The final concrete beam was installed on the Beaconsfield Parade bridge, completing the 145-metre span across the railway line. The bridge is being built to facilitate the safe passage of double-stacked freight trains for the Inland Rail project, with construction partner McConnell Dowell using a 750-tonne crane to lift the final seven 30-tonne beams into place in January 2024.

This position is also responsible to ensure on-going manufacturing strategies that includes quality staffing.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Manage engineering team, including coaching and mentoring staff, allocating workloads, and overseeing engineering activities.

* 2+ years of experience in supplier management of railway vehicle subsystems with the US or European suppliers.

* Experience in troubleshooting Rolling Stock subsystems using hardware and mechanical drawings and circuit and schematics and various tools such as PTU, etc.

* Experience with supervising Railway RAMS engineering including Verification and Validation (V&V).

* Experience as a team leader with a strong determination to complete projects which span several years.

* Ability to teach others and must be able to assist teams with abstract technology concepts.
